Everton have been rewarded with a defender who is ready to take on the big clubs and challenge for a place in the England team.
Martinez has secured the services of 25-year-old defender Fisher Paykel, who is yet to make his Everton debut.
The deal is the second of his Everton career after joining the club from Liverpool in the summer of 2014.
Paykel’s contract is a two-year deal with an option for a further two.
“Martinez is an extremely professional and hard-working manager, who has a great team spirit and I know I can play a key role in his team’s progress,” Paykel told the club’s website.
“He’s made a lot of signings during my time here, which has given me the confidence to play regularly and progress my career.”
I am very happy to be part of the Everton FC squad and I look forward to starting my professional career in the Premier League next season.
“Paykel has scored four goals in 24 appearances this season and was one of three players on the bench against Everton’s second Premier League game, the 2-0 win over Swansea on Sunday.
Fitzgerald will replace the injury-hit Kolo Toure who had an operation on his left knee and has been a spectator for the last seven games.”
We’re looking forward to getting him out of the squad and into training.””
He is going to be back in the squad at some stage in the coming weeks.
